Abandoned iOS app also abandons users’ credentials?

Catalin Cimpanu reports for Softpedia that Database of Abandoned iOS App Exposes Details for 198,000 Users. The story is based on a report by Chris Vickery for MacKeeper on The Danger of Apps that Die stating that ‘there is currently a MongoDB database that appears to belong to Kinotopic sitting out on the open internet with no protection whatsoever.’

Apparently the database includes information on more than 198,000 former users of the abandoned iPhone app Kinotopic, including email, user name and hashed passwords.

Since neither Kinotopic doesn’t seem to be responding at all and Apple has apparently declined to help in contact them, former users of the app might want to look at changing their passwords elsewhere, in case bad guys start trying to crack the passwords listed on the database and trying them on other sites and services.
