Blackberry and Apple: not such low-hanging fruit

Phil Muncaster tells us that CESG has published guidelines for the secure use of smartphones in the public sector, including iPhones, Blackberries and Android.

The guidelines cover only Impact Level 2 (low threat/low impact). Only Blackberry Enterprise Solution is cleared for Level 3 (restricted), and higher levels (Confidential, Secret and Top Secret) remain smartphone-free zones. In fact, the clearance criteria framework is more complex than you might think, as I discussed here back in 2009.

Still, it’s interesting to see consumerist preferences finding a way into the corridors of power.

  1. > CSEG has published guidelines…

That would be CESG. No wonder Wikipedia couldn’t clarify it for me the first time I queried it… 🙂

    • Oops. Thanks for pointing that out.
